Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Player the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and had been in contact with the NFL.
The team did not mention Rice specifically in their announcement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, posted a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.
Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles
Rice missed the first six games of this season due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals injured. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, he concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
